Today has been an exciting day for our third through fifth grade scholars! Our partners from ArtsNow are on campus working with our teachers sharing model lessons using theater.
SCA is now a partner school with ArtsNow, a non-profit organization that works with schools to implement and support authentic arts integration school-wide.
Carefully structured arts-based learning environments help scholars excel academically, socially, and artistically by demonstrating deeper engagement in subject matter, enhanced social awareness, and improved retention of content.
ArtsNow works to build the confidence and skills of educators through professional development and resources to encourage integration of the arts across all grades and content areas.
We believe that our scholars will benefit from being exposed to the arts each and every day. Our teachers have already participated in one day of intensive training and, like the training today, will continue to work with ArtsNow to implement art-based learning across the curriculum.

Over the past year, SCA’s Board and administrative team have been working to acquire financing to purchase the SCA building, additional land surrounding SCA, and secure funds for expansion.
On December 28th, SCA closed a loan with BB&T. Through this loan, SCA now owns the building, which was previously leased from the developer, as well as close to thirty acres surrounding the school.
On January 9th, SCA’s Board voted to accept the apparent low bid of $913,444.00 for construction from Kellerman Construction. Construction will begin in the next few weeks to build an additional wing behind the 2nd/3rd grade hall. This wing will include large rooms for music and physical education, four additional classrooms, and four small intervention rooms.
“We are thrilled to be able to expand our school building to better serve the needs of our scholars,” said Mandy Avera, Dean of Students. “We look forward to breaking ground in February, and the new building will be ready for the 2018-2019 school year.”
The four additional classrooms were designed to provide space for special education, gifted, and electives. However, when SCA receives approval to expand to add middle grades, these four classrooms will allow space to house sixth grade while a middle school is being built.
